Superintendent – Kansas City – Water/Wastewater Plant Construction
*Location: Kansas City – May Require travel upon project completion
*Reports To: Senior Project Manager / Vice President
Position Overview:
The Superintendent plays a key role in overseeing and managing large-scale construction projects, ensuring smooth execution from site preparation to project completion. Responsibilities encompass supervision of field operations, quality control, safety enforcement, and resource management. This position requires expertise in heavy civil construction, particularly in water and wastewater infrastructure. The company is a leading general contractor specializing in the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, water distribution lines, storm and sanitary sewers, and other critical utility infrastructure throughout the Midwest.
Primary Responsibilities:
Project Oversight:
– Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to develop, coordinate, and execute project plans.
– Maintain strict adherence to project timelines, ensuring work progresses efficiently and meets established deadlines.
– Oversee site operations, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
Team Supervision & Leadership:
– Direct and manage field personnel, subcontractors, and labor crews, ensuring clear communication and effective workflow.
– Conduct routine meetings to assess project milestones, address concerns, and provide guidance on next steps.
– Foster a culture of accountability and teamwork, ensuring all team members understand expectations and responsibilities.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
– Enforce all workplace safety protocols, conducting regular inspections to mitigate risks and maintain compliance with industry standards.
– Lead weekly Toolbox Talks with on-site personnel to reinforce safety best practices.
– Coordinate with third-party safety inspectors and ensure all required documentation is maintained.
Quality Assurance:
– Monitor construction activities to ensure high-quality workmanship and compliance with industry best practices.
– Conduct site inspections to verify that materials and workmanship meet or exceed project specifications.
– Address and resolve any deficiencies or quality concerns in a timely manner.
Financial & Resource Management:
– Support budget planning and cost control efforts to ensure efficient allocation of resources.
– Track expenditures and work to minimize unnecessary costs while maintaining project integrity.
– Oversee procurement and proper utilization of materials, tools, and equipment.
Stakeholder Coordination:
– Serve as a key point of communication for clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
– Provide regular status updates, progress reports, and resolution plans for any project challenges.
– Respond to client inquiries and ensure their needs and expectations are addressed throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Documentation & Reporting:
– Maintain thorough and organized project records, including daily logs, reports, and incident documentation.
– Ensure all necessary compliance paperwork is completed and submitted on time.
Problem-Solving & Issue Resolution:
– Proactively identify and troubleshoot project challenges, including scheduling conflicts and technical obstacles.
– Develop strategic solutions to maintain project momentum and ensure successful completion.
Required Qualifications:
– Education:High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
– Experience: At least 3 years of experience in water/wastewater treatment plant construction, with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity.
– Skills: Strong leadership and organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency with construction management software such as Procore and Raken. A comprehensive understanding of construction safety regulations and best practices is essential.
Physical Demands & Work Conditions:
– Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments.
– Capable of lifting and transporting materials and equipment as needed.
– Comfortable with extended on-site presence throughout the duration of projects.
